Prepping for Valentine’s Day!

Honestly, I’m not a big Valentine’s person. My husband and I don’t go out for a fancy dinner or buy each other elaborate gifts but over the next month, I’ll share some of the things that we do to SIMPLY celebrate this holiday around our house. I’m not against love; I’m against the hype.

While I may not go over the top with the holiday, I do LOVE a good Valentine’s Day-inspired outfit AND I’m all about planning ahead!

Valentine’s Day Outfit 1

One reason I’m sharing this post so early in January is that I found a fabulous “Love” Fair Isle Sweater from Brooks Brothers and it is part of their winter sale going on now!

The sweater is 80% merino wool, which makes me itch, but when I put an oxford shirt under it, I don’t notice the wool. Also, the sweater runs a bit short so putting a longer shirt under it means it’s more comfortable to wear. With the cold temperatures in the Midwest in February, this wool sweater is perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Even with the fair isle sweater on sale, it was a splurge purchase (hint: it’d be a GREAT gift from a significant other on Valentine’s Day) – read on for a more affordable Valentine’s Day outfit option!

Valentine’s Day Outfit 2

Last winter, I ordered a gray sweater with a cable knit heart and didn’t receive it until after the holiday (I’m pretty sure I missed the fine print on the shipping time)-this is another reason I’m writing this post now! Since I didn’t have a chance to wear the sweater last February, I’m excited to wear it next month! I can’t remember where it was purchased but I’ve linked an almost identical one from Amazon below – they have them in multiple colors and for under $30! Bonus!

Heart Cable Knit Sweater – Amazon| Pink Gingham Shirt (old) – similar on Amazon (there are multiple color options, including red!) | Jeans – Madewell (my new favorite!) | Tan Booties (old) – similar on Nordstrom Rack (on sale!)

What I like about the sweater is that it can be dressed up or down. For a more business casual look, pair it with black or navy pants or a pencil skirt and tights. For a weekend casual look, pair it with leggings (but I’d recommend sizing up on the sweater if you do this).

If you’re not in the mood to buy anything new, what do you already own that is red or pink?

A mixture of new and old sweaters to inspire your Valentine’s Day outfit planning!

There you go! 2 outfits for Valentine’s Day that you can make your own! Which outfit is your favorite?
